임신/출산 관련 영어회화

'임신'은 영어로 'pregnancy, conception, gravidity, f(o)etation' 라고 쓸 수 있습니다.

또 '임신하다'는 'become(be) pregnant, be in the family way, conceive' 등의 표현이 있습니다.

[예문] Pregnant women are encouraged not to smoke during their pregnancy.

임신한 여자들은 임신기간 동안 금연하도록 권고받는다.

도산(倒産), 즉 '아기의 위치가 거꾸로 되어 머리보다 발이 먼저 나오는 것'을 영어에서는 ' breech birth' 또는 ' breech presentation' 라고 합니다.

[예문] My younger brother was a breech brith, but he was born without any serious problems.

내 동생은 거꾸로 발부터 나왔지만 무사히 태어났다.

* '난산'은 difficult delivery[presentation],

* '자연분만'은 natural childbirth,

* '제왕절개'는 C-section이라고 합니다.

여기서 C는 조마황제인 율리우스 시저(Julius Caesar)가 제왕절개로 태어났다고 해서 그의 이름 첫 글자를 따서 만든 Caesarean의 약자입니다.

동사 except가 보통 진행형으로 쓰이면 '임신중인(= pregnant)'의 의미가 됩니다.

동사 expect를 진행형으로 쓸 때는 특별히 주의해야겠죠? ^^

[예문] I didn't know that you were expecting. When is your baby due?

임신한 줄 몰랐어요. 출산 예정일이 언제죠?

임신 : pregnancy / 임신하다 : be pregnant, be expecting

임산부 : pregnant woman / 임산복 : maternity dress (wear)
